LAN-based messaging app

Communication is an important aspect of any kind of business. And with messaging apps, staying in touch and communicating with your colleagues is easy, especially if you are on the same local area network (LAN). All you need is a simple messenger, and you can start conversing with one another. Achat is software created for this purpose. It is a simple messaging application designed for a local network among connected peers.

Installation and interface

The installation procedure for Achat is fast and runs smoothly. With this, you can have the program ready for chatting in a few minutes. More than the swift installation, the app is also lightweight. This means it will not eat up too much space in your computer and will not affect its performance.

However, while the installation is smooth, users will find the interface very outdated. The app looks like old chat rooms of the late 90s and early 2000s, where you can see the exchange of messages on the main window at the center. The textbox where you type your message, meanwhile, is at the bottom.

On the right side of the screen is the list of other users connected to the LAN. From there, you can see those who are online and those who are offline. The text box and the friends' list are extendable. However, doing so will affect the main window. By extending the friend's list or the text box, the chat window will become smaller.

Additional functions

Achat comes with additional functions. For one, the app has a file-sharing capability, allowing you to share documents, images, music, and even video files. If you want to write down some notes, the program has a note-taking feature as well, with a special tab where you can type them. The app then saves these texts automatically, allowing you to review them whenever you want.

Similar to the group messages of online messaging apps, Achat comes with what it calls channels. Here, you can add other users and converse with them regarding a topic. Of course, there is also the main channel where everyone in the network can talk to one another.

Another tool worth mentioning is the Offline messages tab. In this feature, you can read offline messages. You can also see details like the sender and recipient names, the message ID, and read state. However, users must note that the app cannot keep a one-on-one conversation

Easy to use LAN messenger

To sum things app, Achat is a LAN messenger that small organizations can use. It is easy to use and beginner-friendly but comes with configuration options for advanced users. However, with the various options available for messaging nowadays, the developers should introduce a few innovations to the app to have a fighting chance against similar applications. The app looks outdated and has limited functions, which can be a deal-breaker for users, especially when there are other better options.

AChat is a fantastic tool for local network messenging, which can solve all your communication problems quickly and easily. Not only can you chat with individual contacts but you may unite a number of channels to hold a multiuser conference. You can transfer files, run searches and download from shared folders of other users.

AChat has some great features like the ability to add a phrase to your nickname, to send a quick message that appears as a floating bubble on your desktop and a notification when other people are replying.
